About Our Work Together

Evaluations and Coaching in Context

Working with me is slightly different from what you might expect.

This isn’t your typical doctor’s visit. Working with me is when you are actually the expert on yourself. I’ve got the tools to help you build up your strengths and support what isn’t working.

You’ll spend time telling me about you, your thoughts, and your hopes for the future.

For parents, I want to know what you are really seeing and what that means to your child’s life. This isn’t about “training” you to be a better parent or “changing” your child to fit a mold. It’s about navigating the situation in the best way possible. We aren’t going to fight your household or your personalities. We’re going to work with them.

Diagnostics or evaluations aren’t just about getting a label. It’s about understanding what is working in the situation and what isn’t in the context of your life. An evaluation with me will not just be a yes/no diagnosis. I’ll walk you through the diagnosis and help you develop a feasible action plan.

Coaching with me is also a full-context affair. This is about what you want and what you need. We’ll take a broad approach to what you want out of life, then narrow it down to how your actions today are getting you there. We can do psycho-education if we need to, using concrete tools grounded in science to make a change. If it makes more sense to reflect on a situation, we can do that, too. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment.

I’ve worked in hospital and research settings. I understand the good parts of those settings and what might be done differently in the real world.

Childhood Evaluations, Diagnostics, and Parent Coaching

The stakes are high with children. There isn’t room for conflicts of interest or being political. You shouldn’t need to worry if you have all the information when making decisions about your child. Understanding the benefits of treatment, the costs, and the real-world implications of choices made today is imperative. We’ll think about your child today and throughout their life span… in school, at work, with friends, and building the life they want.

Your child isn’t just another kid to me. While you’ll see me playing with your child on the floor, tickling their belly, or playing Pokémon and talking about Fortnite vs. Zelda, I take my job seriously. Don’t let the giggles fool you. While it looks like playing, it’s serious work to understand your child’s development and cognitive abilities.

I want to hear your story… your dreams.

For adult coaching, this isn’t about changing you. It’s about knowing yourself, working on your mindset, and working toward your goals. This isn’t traditional talk therapy. This is forward-thinking planning, goal setting, and action steps.

The people I help want to understand their ADHD or autism and take steps to move forward. There are always emotional barriers, and we’ll work through them. But we’ll also work on maximizing your time, personal growth, and confidence.

My job is to help you get what you want…

… and live your best possible life.

My favorite part of my job: is helping people realize their many strengths and helping people use those strengths to be truly happy. I understand neurodivergence and how that might manifest in different settings.

We’ll set goals and work toward them together. Wellness, relationships with other people, career, independence, communication, productivity, confidence… If things are working great, that’s awesome – we’ll keep going. If not, we’ll change in ways that make sense. This isn’t rocket science, but your happiness is just as important. We’ll prioritize that.

Let me tell you about my services…

Diagnostic Sessions

I specialize in Autism and ADHD diagnostics. I use all the gold standard assessments (like the ADOS2). I understand school settings, work settings, and home/community settings. I understand that women, people of color, multi-lingual folks, and people with other developmental differences might not fit traditional diagnostic molds.

We’ll work together, getting information from all the places we can, to figure out what (if anything) is going on.

Different than other evaluations, the results are entirely private. No one else, not your school or anyone, needs to know unless you tell them,

About Me

I understand being a working parent, and I understand being imperfect.

I’m not going to tell you to take five hours of data after working for ten hours… unless you really need to. I’ll help you sift through what will have the most payoff and what doesn’t really matter. I’ll value your time, your sanity, and you.

No one’s perfect – we’ll work with what we’ve got realistically.

Here’s how I got into this line of work…

I actually started in school finance. But, while in school, I waited table and nannied. That’s when I met an amazing little girl who did things differently. I understood her, and she understood me. We had a blast together. Making sure that this little girl had the best life possible while she was with me didn’t feel like work at all. Datasheets did.

This grew into a fascination with the brain and its impact on behavior. I switched to psychology, and while some days are easier than others, I really love what I do.

I landed in Philadelphia, but…

I’ve also lived in Oregon, Seattle, and India. This has given me a little perspective on life, culture, and how people are so different and alike.

Some of my training and experience…

I’ve been trained by international experts on completing functional behavioral assessments (FBAs), infant dyadic treatment, and other therapeutic methods.

I’m a doctoral-level licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist… and an expert in infant mental health and autism. I’ve given or directed training programs for hospitals, schools, and medical organizations.

My scholarship includes published research in peer-reviewed journals, and I’ve co-authored book chapters. I’ve also presented clinical research nationally and internationally.

I’ve worked in various settings: early childcare, schools, universities, and large behavioral health organizations. I’ve also worked as a nanny for many different families and children.

When I’m not doing therapy…

I’m a mother of three, two of whom have differences in their development.

I’m absolutely in love with my Ruthie, an adorable, inconsistently well-behaved, and wildly enthusiastic rescue mutt. You’ll often find me at the dog park with her in the morning.

I love to bake, eat, and pretend that I do yoga. 🙂

Let’s get started on your next chapter.

You don’t need to be sure or know exactly what you need. We can work together to figure that out.

If you are ready to take more control over your life and happiness, don’t wait.
